You'll have to navigate the levels, climb and jump on platforms, and get rid of obstacles. Even though you do get a gun and ammo, this is not a shooting game, as guns don't play a very big role in this game. Instead, you'll have to rely on your skills and agility to figure out where you're supposed to go and how to get there.
